Over the centuries, our hotel has lived through many times - wars, social upheavals, the changing times. But one thing has always remained the same: our passion for giving people a special time-out. My parents, Fritz and Theresia Gmachl, were the 22nd generation to start developing the Elixhauser Wirt from a traditional inn into a hotel. Their courage and vision created the basis for what our hotel is today: a place full of charm and history. My grandfather had already offered simple rooms for German holiday children - and when I took over the hotel from my parents in 2005, it was above all my mother's formative decisions that paved the way. She was the driving force behind the redesign of the rooms and the restaurant. This investment soon paid off and earned us a toque in the kitchen.

"Continuing this legacy fills me with great pride."

It was always important to us to preserve the soul of the house. Today, many details remind us of the eventful history of our family: historical pictures on the walls, the solid wooden door frames from the 18th century - they all carry stories from times long past. This combination of old and new is what makes our house so special, offering our guests not only relaxation, but also a feeling of home.

In our hotel, tradition meets modernity, united by our philosophy of warmth and individuality. Values such as respectful interaction and openness characterise our dealings - both with each other in the team and with our guests. I want our hotel to be a place where people feel welcome and experience this special blend of hospitality and history.

The 24th generation is now ready to carry on the legacy. My daughters Theresa and Katharina are attending the tourism school in Bad Hofgastein to prepare for their future role in the family business. It fills me with deep pride that our family has maintained its love and attachment to this hotel for 23 generations. For me, tradition does not mean standing still, but rather the foundation on which we can build something new.

In summer, our guests can enjoy the peace and quiet in our idyllic chestnut garden and relax under the old trees on the green lawn. In winter, the hotel is transformed into a cosy retreat. The open fireplace in the bar, the crackling of the fire and the winter-decorated parlours create a cosy atmosphere that has something magical about it for many guests.
The hotel has another treasure to offer: its location. Our guests can experience the cultural highlights of Salzburg's old town, such as the festival, museums and concerts, up close. At the same time, the nearby Salzburg Seenland invites you to actively discover nature or simply relax in beautiful surroundings.
I am particularly happy about the many regular guests who have actually become an extended part of our hotel family over the years. Some of them have been coming for generations and it is always a pleasure to see familiar faces and hear their stories.
