Henndorf am Wallersee - a place of literary and artistic encounter with supra-regional significance. Well-known writers and artists such as Carl Zuckmayer, Johannes Freumbichler, Ödön von Horváth, Stefan Zweig, Max Reinhardt or the brothers Carl and Richard Mayr belonged to the "Henndorf Circle", lived and worked in the Flachgau community in the north of Salzburg.
The association "Literaturhaus Henndorf", founded in 2009, is searching for traces of this great literary past. The Literaturhaus is an open house of encounter - a place where readings, seminars, workshops, children's and youth programmes take place; a house that encourages conversations and discussions and invites you to linger.

From farmhouse to house of literature
For many years, the listed farmhouse in the centre of the village showed an appearance in need of renovation. When the association "Literaturhaus Henndorf" expressed interest in the historic building with a concept for its use, the 300-year-old Freumbichler House was renovated in keeping with the style and with great attention to detail, with financial support from the municipality of Henndorf, great commitment from local craft businesses and immense dedication from volunteers, according to the specifications of the Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments.
After the completion of the structural restoration, the festive opening of the jewel now called "Literaturhaus Henndorf" took place on 2 December 2012.
