LIFE is the name of the EU's central funding programme to support nature conservation projects with the aim of, conserve wild animal and plant species.
The species-rich floodplain forest of the Weitwörther Au has been restored through renaturation. In the process, the Reitbach stream was lowered - a beautiful sight, and an ideal habitat for young fish was created. Along the pleasant circular trail, colourful panels provide entertaining information on flora and fauna. From the bird "hide" (a special bird-watching hut) you can easily follow the goings-on on the water and in the air. The short detour from the Ausee circular trail leads to the Salzach, where a wonderful view opens up over the river to the Alps. The Seenland pilgrimage trail also leads through the idyllic Weitwörther Au.
The Auen-Erlebnisweg leads barrier-free around the Ausee and offers the whole family many opportunities to experience nature up close. Those who want to learn more about the flora and fauna can join a guided excursion.
