Nature Park
Buchberg

Buchberg (801 m) - small mountain with a big view!

From the plateau, you have a view of both the gently rolling Alpine foothills and the rugged Limestone Alps. with a view of 120 mountain peaks(!) from the Traunstein to the Wilder Kaiser.

Gentle experience of nature
The Buchberg Nature Park stands for mindfulness with nature, regeneration and health. Whether hiking among colourful flower meadows, soaking up the sun above the autumnal sea of fog or snowshoeing in the glittering winter forest - the gently rolling shapes make the area an ideal destination for the whole family all year round!

The adventure playground on the platform below the summit provides leisurely hours for young and old. Special themed trails lead to Hallstatt-period burial mounds and past the new erratic block park and "energy places". Legends and myths are told and you can learn interesting facts about the flora and fauna of the beech forest. On the cradle lounger at the small chapel above Gasthof Alpenblick, you can relax and enjoy the magnificent Alpine panorama.

Six star-shaped themed trails - different starting points. Signposted trails lead through the Buchberg Nature Park; there is the "Farmer's Trail", the "Power Trail", the "Legend Trail", the "Bird Trail", the "Forest Trail" and finally the "Wild Vegetable Trail". Each trail takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Theme trails up the Buchberg

Directions: From the centre of Mattsee, the Weyerbucht car park is the recommended starting point. You walk past the Spar-Münsterholzstraße car park. From there, you reach the Buchberg by walking past the primary school and crossing the main road. A steep section of forest follows, which leads to Vogelhütte. You can shorten this first ascent by parking directly at the Vogelhütte car park (or on the other side of the Buchberg at Gasthof Alpenblick) and from the Vogelhütte car park, the "Vogel- und Sagenweg" trail leads to the summit circular trail - with a viewing platform including a cradle and panoramic mountain display board. Interesting themed boards (with episodes from the world of legends) also accompany you on the "Legend Trail".

Follow the marked hiking trail to the summit cross (801 metres). Hikers can sign the summit register there and may wish to stop for a bite to eat: at the "Naturpark Buchberg" access point further down, you will find the Alpenblick inn and the Mayrhof inn, also known as the "Kaswirt". As an alternative to the summit ascent, the 5.5 kilometre circular hiking trail is also recommended. Walking time approx. 3 hours.

Please enter the nearby nature reserve Egelseen (direction Schleedorf) only with respect for the protected animals and plants.

Enjoy mountains in motion
The Buchberg is one of the "EuRegio summits" - the summits are connected by the 163 km long "Slow bike" cycle circuit. Link to Slow Bike Tour.
