Mattsee Circular route

Those seeking relaxation will find plenty of space around the Mattsee to regain their inner balance. These are wonderful moments of wonder at the beauty of nature.

Directions: Clockwise around the lake, you first walk from the north car park along the footpath and cycle path. Direction Aug. After the bus stop Überfuhr, there is a small footpath in a boggy forest towards the lakeshore. There you continue through the Aug district. On the northern shore of the lake you continue through Cottage villages.

The north-eastern area of the market municipality Mattsee is directly connected to the adjoining Upper Austrian European nature reserve "Meadow areas and lakes in the Alpine foothills and the Upper Austrian North Moor Nature Reserve at Mattsee located. The reed beds together with the pond bulrush and upstream floating leaf zone have been declared a nature reserve. Careful crossing of this buffer zone is therefore required for the special communities of flora and fauna there. In particular Amphibians, water and reed birds and rare plant species are resident there. So you cross these protected areas in a small circuit until you reach the Gebertsham lido.

In summer, a refreshing swim in the Mattsee is recommended here. A short climb will lead you to the listed Filial Church Gebertsham. Noteworthy there are the magnificent winged altar from the early 16th century and wall paintings that can be classified as late Gothic sacred art. In addition, hikers at this site are gifted with an impressive view over the Mattsee and a cradle lounger to relax on.

If you now continue along the 1TP7 circular route, you will soon reach a longer forest path with some small streams into the Ramoos district. Cosy resting places with a far-reaching view of the silhouette of the historic walls and the rippling sailing ships accompany you in Ramooser Straße. There you walk past magnificent villas along the lakeshore until you arrive in Weyerallee.

In the Weyerbucht recreational facility Once you have arrived, you will find yourself directly in the centre, in the immediate vicinity of the castle Mattsee and the monastery Mattsee. Back from the market square you will reach the lakeshore again.
