Ice Age Trail & Plaike
Henndorf

20,000 years ago, the Alps and the adjoining foreland were covered by mighty glaciers. At the end of the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago, a new landscape was born. The eastern Flachgau was formed by the Wallersee branch glacier, an offshoot of the mighty Salzach glacier.

The Ice Age Trail describes the traces and witnesses of the Ice Age at eleven stations.
. The route leads to the Steinwandl via the Große Plaike (1034m) and the Heimkehrerkreuz, where a beautiful rest area with a marvellous Wallersee view invites you to linger.

22 display boards tell about the formation of the landscape by the ice-age Salzach foreland glacier. Along the way you get to know and understand the "heritage of the ice age".
